The purpose of the Jacomo Chorale is to create an outstanding choral group and ensembles operating to do the following:
Provide an enjoyable outlet for performance of music to the surrounding communities, as well as state and national audiences. The Jacomo Chorale has been serving the Kansas City Metropolitan Community since 1983. We have been fortunate to have four wonderful conductors, who have elevated the Chorale to new heights in areas of musical ability and proficiency, community relations, diversity of literature and membership. The founder and first conductor of the Jacomo Chorale was Harold Neal. He served the Chorale for the 1983 - 1985 seasons. Neal was succeeded by Sue Nichols for the 1986-1988 seasons, and the fall of the 1988 season. Jeffrey Carter, DMA began with the in the second half of the 1988 season. He continued with the Chorale through February 1998. The Chorale thrived under Dr. Carter's direction. Mrs. Rebecca Burns-Johnson was the next director of the Chorale. She began in February 1998 and served through the fall of 2004. In 2004 the Chorale selected James L. Wrolstad of Liberty, MO to be the Chorale's next Artistic director. James finished the 2006-2007 season on a high note. He is leaving the Chorale to finish up his doctorate degree in music education. The Chorale was so fortunate to have in the wings, J. Seth Farrow, to lead the group for another successful season 2007-2008. Seth announced that he would be leaving to work with his church group in the downtown KC area. Again, the Chorale was greatly blessed to audition and accept as its new director Skip Frizzell, who served as director for the 2008-2009 season. Skip told the members of the Chorale at the end of that season that he would stepping down because of health reasons. Forty years of choral conducting takes it toll on the human body. He will be missed. For greater detail on our past directors, click here. The Chorale is now proud and excited to announce that Dr. Helena Vasconcellos of Independence, MO is the Chorale's newest conductor. She will guide the Chorale into new musical experiences, numerical growth and critical acclaim. For greater detail on our current directors, click here. There are several other people that make this Chorale all that it is. Our Chorale Manager, Nancy Schludecker-White has been with the Chorale since 1990, and has served as Section Leader, Secretary and now Chorale Manager. You can also see a list of our membership at our Members page. For a list of our Chorale officers, click here. The Jacomo Chorale is a non for profit organization (501c3) serving the community through our performances. Contributions to the JACOMO Chorale is tax deductible. For a list those who have contributed to the JACOMO Chorale organization for this season, click here. Our name may sound "unique" to you, if you're not familiar with the Kansas City area, but it's really quite simple. We took the first two letters from our location, JAckson COunty and added MO, which is the state abbreviation for Missouri, JACOMO.
